Lousy chestnut crop shakes beloved autumn tradition—the World Conker Championships on Sunday

Every fall, British fans go nuts over the World Conker Championships. 

Hard brown horse chestnuts, known as conkers, are at the heart of the game that has been played in British schoolyards for generations. Players select a conker that has been drilled and strung. They stand at arms length and take turns whacking their opponent’s conker until one of the chestnuts breaks.
