James T. Areddy is a China-focused correspondent for The Wall Street Journal.


Mr. Areddy began reporting for the U.S. newspaper and Dow Jones & Co. in the late 1980s and has written stories for many sections of The Journal and its affiliate publications. He spent around 18 years in Shanghai for the Journal and Dow Jones until 2020 and reported from Hong Kong during most of the 1990s. He has also been based in New York City. Mr. Areddy's China coverage has focused on trends in business, politics, security, society, environment and broadly the pressures that have arisen from the country's massive economic transformation and its great impact on the wider world. Mr. Areddy was a joint winner of both the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting and the 2010 Overseas Press Club of America's Malcolm Forbes Award, plus has received awards from the Society of Publishers in Asia.
