Santiago Pérez is the deputy editor for Latin America, based in Mexico City. He helps coordinate regional coverage and writes about political, social and economic trends shaping Latin America, such as social turmoil in Cuba, the adoption of bitcoin in El Salvador and drug violence in Mexico.

Santiago has led reporting projects about the underlying dynamics behind migration along the U.S.-Mexico border, Central America and the Caribbean. He also has conducted investigations on public corruption, white-collar crime and sexual harassment in multilateral organizations. Previously, Santiago spent nine years in Madrid as bureau chief for Spain and Portugal, covering the rise and fall of the Iberian economy.
