Will Mauldin is a reporter covering the State Department and foreign policy for The Wall Street Journal's Washington bureau. He has reported from 40 countries, frequently traveling with the U.S. secretary of state and other senior officials. Since Russia's broad invasion of Ukraine, Will has written frequently about diplomacy to reopen food supplies through the Black Sea and efforts by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to support Ukraine.

Prior to covering the State Department, Will covered U.S. trade policy, including the trade war with China during the Trump administration. He also covered the 2015 Paris climate negotiations for the Journal.

Will worked for five years in Moscow, with stints at the Moscow Times, Bloomberg News and finally the Journal, where he reported on topics ranging from terrorist attacks to banking and the Russian economy.

Prior to the Russia reporting, Will wrote for SmartMoney magazine in New York, covering personal finance and consumer news. He began his reporting career covering police departments and crime for the Commercial Dispatch in Columbus, Miss., and the New York Sun in Manhattan.

A native of Mississippi, Will attended the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science for high school. He graduated from Yale in 2002 with a degree in Russian studies.
